Megan Isbester, 15 - Distance Running

meganMegan hails from Gunnedah where she has overcome some life’s challenges to develop into a very competitive distance runner. Megan is in the Individual Lonestar Program for her 2nd year and has gone from strength to strength throughout her time in the academy. In 2010 Megan won at NSW all Schools cross country championships and She then went on to come 4th at the national level. On the track she won both the 1500 and 3000m at NSW all Schools. In February 2011 Megan went one better winning the National 3000m title. A very determined athlete with a promising future.




Brendan Howe, 18 - Archery

brendanBrendan comes from Armidale and has only competed within his sport for the last 3 years. 2010 was a good year for Brendan representing NSW at the Youth National Archery Championships finishing a close 2nd overall. From Here Brendan was named in the National youth team to compete against New Zealand in the biannual Trans-Tasman Challenge. Brendan Won Gold in his division in doing so helped Australia win the overall title. Brendan was named Armidale’s Junior Sports Star of the year for 2010.



Gabby Bierling, 17 - Netball

gabbyGabby has been involved in the NIAS Netball program for the last 4 years. Gabby plays a pivotal role within the program and is seen as a mentor to the younger athletes. Gabby has participated in the last 2 Academy games and Hunter Academy of Sport Netball competitions. As Shooter she has played at a high level representing at State championship and plays a key role for her South Tamworth Club. Gabby is a great ambassador for NIAS and is always willing to help out with any volunteer involvement.

 

 




Alex McKenzie, 16 - Hockey

alexAlex has played hockey since age 6 and has been in the Academy for 2 years. In 2010 Alex represented the New England U17’s who participated in the NSW state Championships. From here Alex made the U15s NSW TAP program/State Squad and went on to make the squad. 2011 has also started well for Alex with him representing Tamworth U17s which were semi finalists at the NSW State Championships. 2011 has also seen him make the U16s NSW TAP program/State Squad. Alex is an athlete who understands the philosophy of the NIAS and always volunteers to help with any functions and events within the community.
