Helping Our Olympic Champions

Since 1993 the Greater Building Society has been proud to support the Hunter Academy of Sport and its aspiring athletes.

Each year the Greater provides $2000 scholarships to 10 Hunter Academy of Sport athletes, who show tremendous potential in their chosen Olympic sport, to assist them with their preparations for the Games. The athletes also advice from Hunter Academy of Sport consultants in areas such as: sports psychology; nutrition; physical fitness; injury prevention; and injury treatment.

Seven of Australia's Beijing Olympic and Paralympic teams were current or former Greater Sports Scholarship holders.

Previous scholarship recipients who were Olympic medallists include Hunter swimming sensation Justin Norris, cyclist Olivia Gollan and sprinter Joshua Ross.

In addition to the scholarships, the Greater also supports the Academy’s tennis and athletics programs. It is also the major sponsor of the Academy’s Annual Presentation (awards) Evening.

The team at the Greater is encouraging all athletes, whether they reach the Olympics or not, to be the best that they can be.
