David McGlynn was destined to work in financial services. His father and grandfather were both bank managers.
Mr
McGlynn is now the manager of the Greater Building Society's branch at
Westfield's Helensvale Plaza which opened late last year.
Born in Sydney, Mr McGlynn came to the Gold Coast 25 years ago to
work for another building society called Metropolitan. He then worked
for several banks before taking up his new role in October last year.
"I guess banking is in my blood,"Mr McGlynn says.
"I like the contact with people, and helping them to realise their dreams of buying a home or unit," he says.
Mr McGlynn, who lives in Robina with his wife and daughter, says he
is looking forward to staying on the Gold Coast with the Greater.
"I can't imagine a better place in which to live and work," he says.
He says he is looking forward to the challenge of building up a new branch.
He says he likes the family atmosphere of the Greater which is "big on customer service and supporting the community".
"We support medical research, the only private centre for victims
of child abuse in the country, as well as organisations such as
Samaritans and Wesley Mission."
The Greater also supports up and coming sports people. Last year it
was the major sponsor of the Queensland PGA golf tournament held at
Emerald Lakes on the Gold Coast.
The Greater now has three branches on the Gold Coast at Burleigh
Heads, Helensvale, and Robina, as well as a branch at Tweed Heads, and
employs more than 20 local people. It is planning to open more branches
in the area in the near future as suitable sites become available.
"While the Greater is new to Queensland it has actually been operating in NSW for over 60 years."
The Greater Building Society was one of six finalists in the 2005
Australian HR Awards for Employer of Choice for companies with more
than 500 employees. It now has 63 branches and is one of the fastest
growing building societies in the country.
