Up and coming young Lismore golfer gets opportunity to play in major Pro-Am

Date: 30/10/2006

An 18 year old Lismore woman is realising her dream of playing in a major pro-am golf tournament thanks to the Greater Building Society.

Ashleigh Woodridge will play with the likes of Peter Senior, Terry Price and Amy Yang at the 2006 Greater Building Society Queensland PGA Championship Pro Am on Wednesday November 1. The Von Nida Tour event will be held at Emerald Lakes Golf Club on the Gold Coast from November 2 -5.

Ms Woodridge has only been playing golf for 12 months yet she already has an impressive handicap of 3.5.

She says she is very excited to be playing in such a big tournament. Her parents, who have never seen her play in a golf tournament before, as well as her grandparents and friends, are all travelling from Lismore to watch her play.

Greater Building Society regional manager Karen Laws says she is delighted to be giving such a talented young golfer an opportunity to play at a major tournament and to meet some of the nation's top professional and amateur golfers.

"We are hoping this opportunity will help Ashleigh's career to take off," Ms Laws says.

Ms Woodridge was nominated by the Lismore Golf Club where she plays.
