Eight weeks after it was virtually destroyed in the wild storms and floods of the June long weekend the Greater Building Society's Wallsend branch is set to reopen on Monday August 6.

Branch Manager Alison Sibley thanked customers for their patience while the branch was completed refitted.

Mrs Sibley said the Wallsend community went through a tremendous ordeal during the storms and it was good to be getting back to normal.

“My staff and I are looking forward to reopening our doors and welcoming our customers back to their local branch,” Mrs Sibley said.

The Greater is the only financial institution with a branch in Nelson Street.

During the closure a courtesy bus transported customers to the nearby Elermore Vale branch. Special arrangements were also made for Greater customers that were affected by the storms.
