Members of the ABS Building Society (ABS) will be able to ask questions about the Armidale-based financial institution’s proposed merger with Greater Building Society at an information session being held in Armidale next week (November 1) from 5pm at the Armidale Bowling Club.
CEO Roger Cracknell said the information session was another way for members to find out more about the benefits of the merger ahead of a vote by members later in the year. Mr Cracknell said all members had been mailed an information pack.
He said that members will also have the opportunity to meet Greater CEO Don Magin at the meeting,” Mr Cracknell said.
“The ABS Board is recommending the merger as being in the best interests of our 3,500 members because it will provide them with a broader, more competitive range of financial services including lower home loan rates,” Mr Cracknell said.
Greater CEO Don Magin said he was looking forward to meeting members to reassure them of the Greater’s commitment to ABS staff, Armidale and the broader New England community.
He said that the Greater has a proud history of service in the New England region and, like ABS, is a mutual building society that works for its members, not shareholders.
The merger requires the approval of a majority of ABS members.
ABS has 10 staff working at its Armidale branch and headquarters, as well as a service centre in Guyra.
