The Greater Building Society and Housing Industry Association (HIA) are teaming up to provide some free advice to Gold Coast home renovators.
A free home renovation information evening will be held on Monday November 23 at the HIA’s Varsity Lakes office from 6pm to 7.30pm.
Topics will include developing plans and specifications, getting plans approved, and the benefits of using a HIA builder or contractor. The ins and outs of how contracts work as well as tips for avoiding common renovation pitfalls will be provided along with expert advice on how to finance a renovation.

HIA Gold Coast executive director Colin Buttenshaw said sessions will be delivered by leading bathroom, kitchen and home extension specialists as well as a Greater Building Society manager.
Mr Buttenshaw said the evening would be helpful to many people as 54% of all Gold Coast building approvals last year were for renovations.
“The seminars will give people all the information people need to know about renovating their home,” Mr Buttenshaw said.
“This is the first time the Greater and HIA have worked together on the Gold Coast but we have other highly effective seminars together in NSW,” he said.
Greater Building Society partnerships manager Steve Goverd said renovating a home is a major task but it can be the ideal way to get your dream home.
Mr Goverd said that a home renovation can provide extra space and features and add to a home’s value, provided it is done properly.
“The Greater has a number of options to fund a renovation as part of their mortgage including a Line of Credit loan and redraws from an existing loan,” Mr Goverd said.
The Hunter based Greater Building Society is one of the largest building societies in Australia. It has seven branches on the Gold Coast. HIA is Australia's largest residential building organisation.
