Greater exchanges contracts on new head office site

Date: 21/10/2011

The Greater Building Society has taken the next step in its move to Honeysuckle with the exchange of contracts with Hunter Development Corporation (HDC) for the purchase of the 3700 square metre block at Cottage Creek, Honeysuckle, next to Hunter Water.

CEO Don Magin said the Greater will now commence preparations for the building design and the lodgement of a development application (DA) for the site. Mr Magin said he hoped to be able to lodge a DA in the first quarter of 2012 and to occupy the building within three years.

“The new head office will allow the Greater Building Society to better serve its growing customer base brought about by our continued strong business performance,” Mr Magin said.

“This is a long term investment for the benefit of our members and cements our position as a major organisation and employer based in the Hunter,” he said.

He said the Greater’s 350 head office staff have outgrown the current Hamilton office and that further expansion of that building is not a viable, long-term option.

“Our current Hamilton head office is a contemporary, functional building in a prime location, and we are confident that there will be other businesses who will want space in the building after we relocate to Honeysuckle.

He said that the Greater will continue to have a branch in Hamilton.

The Greater took out an Option Deed earlier in the year to enable it to undertake due diligence on the site.

The Greater Building Society is one of Australia’s top 200 private companies (BRW) with almost $5 billion in assets and 68 branches. It serves almost 250,000 members across regional NSW, Sydney, Gold Coast and Townsville.

The Greater was named Australia’s Building Society of the Year in the Australian Banking and Finance Awards and Australia’s best building society, as well as best home loan and savings account provider in the 2011 Mozo People’s Choice Awards.
