With a 100% increase in people coming to it to refinance their home loan the Greater Building Society is providing a free seminar for Hunter mortgage owners wishing to know more about refinancing.
Greater Building Society Rutherford branch manager, Peter Marquet, said that the Greater is holding the first of its Great Escape seminars in the Hunter after they were successfully trialed on the Central Coast and the Gold Coast. The seminars will be held in Newcastle (Noahs) on August 2 and East Maitland (East Maitland Bowling Club) on August 9.
Mr Marquet said that in the past financial year (10/11) 100% more people swapped their home loan to the Greater than they did in the previous year (09/10). He said the large number of enquiries Greater staff were experiencing from people who are dissatisfied with other lenders rates, fees and service but not sure of the facts about switching showed the need for a seminar.
He said Greater staff will dispel some of the myths about refinancing as well as show people who are dissatisfied with their bank how easy it is to swap their loan to the Greater and potentially save tens of thousands of dollars.
“The Greater’s standard variable rates are around half a percent lower than the major banks, so you can pay to break your loan and still be well in front,” Mr Marquet said.
“On current advertised rates, a person on a 25 year Greater Standard Variable Loan of $285,000 can be up to $33,000 better off than someone on the average rate of the four major banks’ standard variable loans – and they also get a holiday,” he said.
“Saving $33,000 is not a bad hour’s work and it is easier to switch lenders than most people think.”
He said a system called Fast Refi is also reducing the time it takes to settle an approved refinanced loan from weeks down to days.
Places at the seminar are limited so bookings are essential. People wishing to book a place should go to www.greater.com.au or call 1300 651 400.
Hunter based Greater Building Society was named Building Society of the Year in the 2011 AB+F Awards. It won Building Society of the Year in the current (2010) Mozo People’s Choice Awards. Mozo also named the Greater as one of the top two home loan providers in Australia. The Greater has been serving the people of the Hunter for 66 years and 29 of its 67 branches are located in the region.
