What: Mayumarri Business Breakfast
When: Thursday November 26, 2009 from 7.15-8.30am
Where: Noahs on the Beach
The Greater Building Society’s head of marketing John Dwyer has a clear message for Hunter business people, have a “WOW” factor in your marketing.
Mr Dwyer will share some of the insights he has learnt in his 25 years in the marketing industry at a fundraising breakfast for the Hunter based healing centre, Mayumarri. He will also reveal how he managed to get Jerry Seinfeld to be the face of a Hunter building society.
Mr Dwyer says he knows how competitive today’s marketplace is for every industry and cautions that focusing on branding alone may not be enough to get a business across the line.
“My philosophy is if it doesn’t have a WOW, than why bother doing it?” Mr Dwyer says.
He says any business can introduce a WOW into their marketing - it is just a case of looking outside the square. He cites the McDonalds’ Happy Meal toy and telecommunications companies offering the 13th month for free as classic examples.
The main focus of his presentation will be the successful Seinfeld campaign. He says research commissioned by the Greater shows that using Jerry Seinfeld has dramatically lifted its brand profile and that, in its area of operations, awareness of its campaign is higher than those of the major banks.
Mayumarri spokeswomen, Anne Morriss says she is thrilled to have snared Mr Dwyer because he will provide every small and large business owner attending with practical, WOW ideas that they can include in their 2010 marketing plans.
“John’s presentation is perfectly timed for a business owner who wants to stimulate sales the easy way," Ms Morriss said.
A former Hunter resident who now lives on the Gold Coast, Mr Dwyer has practiced what he preaches injecting a WOW factor into the marketing of a number of organisations including News Limited, Westfield, Pacific Magazines, ACP, The Nine Television Network, Coles Myer, Caltex, 7 Eleven, McDonalds, KFC, Red Rooster, and Video Ezy. He was the brains behind the Greater’s free holiday member reward offer. In the 1990s he created scratch bingo concepts as well as rugby league trading card and sticker promotions to lift the circulation of major newspapers. He was also behind the Dreams Can Come True TV series which saw superstars like Michael Jordan, Princess Diana, David Duchovny, and Paul Hogan help to fulfill the dreams of some very worthy Australians.
John Church will MC the event. There will be a number of prizes on offer including a range of Seinfeld material personally signed by Jerry Seinfeld.
All proceeds from the luncheon will go to the Mayumarri Healing Centre’s programs to help survivors of childhood abuse and trauma to heal. Tickets cost $49 each or $450 for a table of 10. They can be purchased online from Sticky Tickets - www.stickytickets.com.au/2491
