Australian track star Tamsyn Lewis will share her expertise and motivation with staff from the Greater Building Society and the region’s future athletics’ stars tomorrow, ahead of Saturday’s Hunter Track Classic.
Last year’s winner of the Women’s 400m event, Lewis will make two presentations to Greater staff at its Hamilton headquarters tomorrow (Friday January 28 from 2pm to 3.30pm) before taking around 25 athletes from the Hunter Academy of Sport Athletics Program through a training session at the Hunter Sports Centre at Glendale (at 4pm).
The Greater is a major sponsor of the Hunter Track Classic. The Greater also sponsors the Hunter Academy of Sport’s athletics and tennis programs as part of a broader support package for the Academy and its athletes.
Sponsorship manager, Steve Goverd, says it is fantastic that Lewis has agreed to give her time to inspire and help others.
“Tamsyn jumped at the chance to help out which is a credit to her professionalism and community spirit,” Mr Goverd says.
Mr Goverd says Greater staff are keen to hear how she sets goals and stays motivated to be the best, and some are also keen to hear about her experience on Dancing With the Stars.
“We wanted our staff and Hunter Academy of Sport athletes to benefit from the Greater’s support for this event,” he says.
The Hunter Track Classic is one of the Hunter Region’s sporting highlights of the year, attracting the best athletes from all over Australia. The event is expected to be watched by around 4000 spectators at the Hunter Sports Centre at Glendale on Saturday.
Maitland’s Laura Whaler, who is also a Greater Building Society Sports Scholarship recipient, is hoping to qualify for the World Championships in 100m and 200m at the meet.
