The Greater Building Society has today won two of the inaugural 2010 Mozo People’s Choice Awards. The Greater has been named Best Building Society. It also took out a Top 5 Home Loan Award.

More than 23,000 Australians participated by rating their financial institution on mozo.com.au over the past 12 months across six criteria: overall satisfaction, price, features, customer service, convenience and trust.

Chief executive Don Magin said to receive awards voted for by consumers is very rewarding.

Mr Magin said one of the reasons for the Greater’s success is because, as a mutual, it exists for its members, not shareholders.

He said Mozo established the awards to give Australia’s true banking stars a chance to shine and, with the help of Jerry Seinfeld, the Greater is trying to shine as a viable alternative to the major banks.

“As a relatively small financial institution operating in two states, it is very pleasing to take out this national award ahead of 131 other financial providers,” Mr Magin said.

“This award is further proof that we are offering people what they want and deserve from a financial institution – competitive rates, low fees, outstanding service and rewards like free holidays,” he said.

“We see ourselves as a people’s bank.”

Mr Magin praised his 700 staff as the other reason why the Greater had won the award.

“Thanks to our staff, the Greater has an independently determined customer satisfaction rating of 95%.”

“Our mission is to be recognised as the most customer-focused financial institution in Australia.”

“We appreciate the business of all of our members and thank everyone who voted for the Greater.”

He commended Mozo for giving banking customers a real voice in the money marketplace.
