What is Verified by Visa?
Verified by Visa is a free service which provides you with extra protection and security when you shop online using your Greater Visa card.
It lets you use a personal password while making purchases at participating online retailers, giving you the added assurance that only you can use your Greater Visa Debit card or Visa Credit card when shopping online. This protection is similar to entering your PIN at an ATM.
How does Verified by Visa work?
When you enrol for Verified by Visa, you will be prompted to create your Verified by Visa Password and Verified by Visa Personal Message. When you make a purchase with a participating online retailer, your Personal Message will appear in the Verified by Visa Password screen during checkout, giving you the confidence that you’re shopping with a participating Verified by Visa online retailer.
You are then required to enter your Password, which is verified by the Greater before being processed with the added security of Verified by Visa.
How do I register for Verified by Visa?
Option 1: Register Now
So that you will be ready to shop online with an enhanced level of security at participating Verified by Visa retailers, you can register now by following these 4 easy steps:
- Go to the Verified by Visa page on the Greater’s website. Click on the “Verified by Visa” image (below) where you be taken to the Greater’s Verified by Visa portal.
- Verify your details. You will then need to select the “Register” option where you will be asked for your card number, along with the following details:
- Name shown on your Greater Visa card
- Card expiry date
- Date of birth
- Postcode
- Mobile Phone Number
- Personal Phone Number
- Personal Message – this is a short sentence that will appear on screen when you make an online purchase with a participating Verified by Visa retailer. Every time you see you personal message on screen, you will know you are communicating with Greater Building Society.

Create your Verified by Visa Username and Password. You will now be asked to create a Verified by Visa Username and Password.
Make sure you remember your Password as you will be asked for this each time you shop online at a Verified by Visa merchant. Your Username together with your Password, can be used to access the Self-Service Options link.

Enrolment complete. A confirmation page will be displayed. Your Greater Visa card is now enrolled for Verified by Visa. And remember, if you wish to update your Personal Message or Password or view your latest Verified by Visa online transactions, click on the Self-Service Options link in the Verified by Visa portal on the Greater’s website.
Option 2: Register LATER
If you are not already registered for the service, you will be prompted to register at participating online retailers when you are in the process of making your online purchase. While you will be able to continue to make the purchase if you choose not to register for Verified by Visa, you will only be allowed to do this up to 3 times - after that you must be registered for the service. To register for Verified by Visa while making your online purchase, simply follow the prompts, read the terms and conditions and complete the registration process listed above.

For a full list of participating online retailers that offer the enhanced security of Verified by Visa, go to the “Visa cardholder security” page. The list is constantly growing so don’t forget to check it on a regular basis. And of course you can still shop at non-participating online retailers with your Greater Visa Card, it will just be without the extra security offered by the service.
To shop with the added security of Verified by Visa, just look for the Verified by Visa symbol displayed on the web page of participating online stores.
