Getting Help to make the switch
If you would like us to help you make the switch please follow the steps below.
Step 1. Open a Greater account
To start the process of switching to the Greater, you will first need to visit your local branch to open a new account. The Greater will provide you with your new account number and BSB number, which you will need to re-establish your regular payments.
Step 2. Identify any regular payments to and from your old account
Upon request, your old financial institution will provide you with a list of regular payments that have occurred over the past 13 months.
You will also need to:
Identify the regular payments where you have supplied your old debit card number.
Access your old account via the internet banking facility (if applicable) and print out your 'pay anyone' list prior to closing the account.
Access your old account via the internet banking facility (if applicable) and print out your 'pay anyone' list prior to closing the account.
Step 3. Re-establish your payments on the new account
Call into your local Greater branch with your list provided by the old financial institution and we can set up your payments on the new account for you!
All you will need to do is complete and sign the ‘Switch of Financial Institution and Account Details’ form to advise each organisation of your new account details. Once you authorise each change, we will forward the forms to the relevant organisations.
For other payments:
Ask us to set up your periodical payments on your new Greater account. Contact any organisations that you make regular payments to using your old debit card and advise them your changed details. If you use internet banking to make payments, set up your ‘pay anyone’ details on your new account.
Don’t forget to transfer your pay to your new Greater account.
Advise your employer of your new account details so your salary will be paid into your new account.
You can visit your local Greater branch, or call us on 1300 651 400 to help you through the process.
Step 4. Close your old account
Once your salary and regular payments have been transferred to your new Greater account, you can close your old account(s).
Tips for a smooth switch
Once all the organisations have been advised of your new account details, you should:
- Ensure that you leave funds in your old account until all of your regular payments have been established on your new Greater account.
- Check your new Greater account when the next regular debit or credit is due to occur and contact the organisation if it continues to appear on your old account.
- Once all regular payments appear on your Greater account, close your old account'.
During the change over process, the Greater has no control over when other organisations that make credits and debits to your account will update their records.
These tips should prevent you from being charged any overdrawn or dishonour fees on your old account.
