Our Shellharbour branch manager Craig Mowbray and Figtree branch manager Nicole Crabbe are putting on their walking shoes to raise money for people affected by cancer. They want you to join them on the Greater Illawarra Walk.
My colleague, Figtree branch manager Nicole Crabbe, me and members of our families are putting on our walking shoes to help people affected by cancer.
We are doing The Great Illawarra Walk on March 23 and 24 to raise funds for Camp Quality. It is the first time The Greater has entered a team for the event and we are challenging other business people and Illawarra residents to do the same. Come and walk with us. It'll be a rewarding and great experience for a great cause.
My wife Leisa and our kids Bryce 17, Hayley 13 and Tayla 8 are walking with me. Nicole's brother Dave and three cousins are joining her.
As a former nurse who nursed many cancer patients I know the pain cancer brings to people and their families. Camp Quality is close to my heart. My wife’s niece had cancer at a very young age and benefited from its services. Seeing the work the Camp Quality carers do, I can’t wait to assist in raising awareness, raising money and showing support for people affected by cancer.
Nicole was saying to me recently that while the walk will be a challenge, it doesn’t compare to the challenge faced by people affected by cancer.
The 50 km first day walk starts from Shellharbour Village at 7am. The 50 km second day walk starts from Coalcliff Surf Club and finishes at Shellharbour Club. Nicole and I have been training a bit so we don't disgrace ourselves. We play Oztag. Nicole plays netball, soccer and does 10km walks along the lake (she may end up carrying me!) She is also fit from chasing her three little boys (six and under) around. Here are some shots of our INTENSIVE fitness training!
For more information visit www.greatillawarrawalk.com or call me at the Shellharbour branch on 42954100, Nicole at the Figtree branch on 42253081 or call in and see us at the branches. Hope to see you on the walk.
