This week marks National Volunteers Week 2015. A week to recognise and celebrate all the wonderful volunteers in our community who work tirelessly towards making our world a better place.
Volunteering is a key platform of our Charitable Foundation, and in the past 12 months alone, close to 280 Greater employees have volunteered with a Greater Charitable Foundation partner. This is a fantastic achievement, and one worth celebrating!
For this reason, we established the inaugural Greater Charitable Foundation Volunteer of the Year Award. This award recognises Greater employees who have gone above and beyond in their efforts to give back to their community.
It was truly enlightening to see the number of applications submitted for the award, and read about the inspiring dedication Greater employees have to their community. Whether it was through participating in the Cerebral Palsy Alliance mentoring program, or helping grant the wishes of seriously ill children through the Starlight Children’s Foundation Wishgranting Program, I was genuinely overwhelmed by the passion of our volunteers and their eagerness to contribute.
At the Greater Charitable Foundation, our mission is to improve lives and our vision is to make a significant difference to our communities. The involvement of Greater volunteers in our funded programs is certainly helping us to make a lasting change in the communities within which we operate, and in turn, providing employees with immeasurable benefits associated with helping others. Everyday employees provide us with feedback about how giving their time to others has inspired feelings of pride, joy and satisfaction within themselves. This, in essence, perfectly sums up the holistic nature of the volunteering experience.
So this National Volunteers Week, I encourage all of you to think about what kind of impact you want to have in your community, and take the next steps towards helping it come to fruition. On behalf of the Greater and Foundation, I would like to applaud ALL of the wonderful volunteers for the commitment they show to our community every day. This week, we get to celebrate you!
