Tips to help improve Board Meeting effectiveness

What: Australian Institute of Company Director’s (AICD) briefing: Improving Board meeting effectiveness

When: June 22, 2014 at 5.30pm-7.30pm

Where: Newcastle Club, 40 Newcomen Street, Newcastle

Leaders of Hunter companies and organisations will be able to learn ways to improve board meeting effectiveness from local experts thanks to the Greater Building Society.

The Greater is sponsoring the next Australian Institute of Company Director’s (AICD) briefing on June 22 at the Newcastle Club.

Speakers include nib deputy chief executive officer and chief financial officer Michelle McPherson, ICSA Boardroom Apps Limited business development manager Colin Panagakis, and Hunter Valley Research Foundation chairman Eileen Doyle.

The Greater’s chairman Wayne Russell said preparation is the key to enhance the outcomes of board meetings. Mr Russell said it was important for boards to regularly review their systems and processes.

“As a busy director in an environment of increasing governance complexity, ensuring your board meetings are run effectively is vital,” Mr Russell said.

The briefing will look at best practice policies for meeting preparation, how papers are delivered, the impact of new boardroom apps and the role of the chair in making meetings effective.

Mr Russell said the briefing was suited to directors as well as CEOs and other senior leaders and staff that support boards.

The Hunter-based Greater Building Society provides home loans, business banking and a full range of other financial services to 250,000 people across NSW and the Gold Coast.
