School children from the Wallsend area have the chance to show off their artistic skills as well as win $500 for their school and their own savings account thanks to the Greater Building Society.
The Greater Building Society School Art Competition is a new part of the upcoming Wallsend Winter Fair (August 9).
Greater Building Society branch manager Jodie Daly said children from high schools, primary schools and pre-schools in the Wallsend are being invited to submit an artwork about the history of Wallsend. Entries close on Thursday July 30, 2015.
She said the theme was chosen because the Wallsend Winter Fair is this year celebrating its 30th anniversary.
Ms Daly said she will present the school that has the most entries with a $500 cheque at the Fair. There will also be Greater Building Society Life Saver youth banking accounts for the best three artworks. The first prize is a $100 savings account, second prize is a $50 account and third prize is a $25 account. The Wallsend Town Business Association will also be giving away 10, $20 prizes to age group finalists.
She said everyone who enters is a winner because they will also get a $5 Life Saver savings account from The Greater.
“The Greater is supporting this fantastic community event as well as helping kids to learn about the history of Wallsend and the importance of saving for the future,” Ms Daly said.
The Greater’s LifeSaver youth banking account pays high interest (currently3.50%) provided the account balance grows each month. Once parents or grandparents are comfortable with the child operating the account themselves they can link it to a Greater everyday account to enjoy transaction and account keeping fee free banking until they are aged 25.
Organisers are expecting up to 30,000 people to attend this year’s Fair. The Fair will include stalls, performances and a Grand Parade. People wishing to find out more about the Wallsend Winter Fair should visit www.winterfair.com.au or the Wallsend Winter Fair’s Facebook page.
