Captain Starlight put a smile on the faces of sick local kids and their families on Tuesday September 22 thanks to additional funding from the Greater Charitable Foundation.
Captain Starlight came from Planet Starlight to visit Maitland Hospital. The visits are a diversional therapy program. Captain Starlight uses fun activities such as face painting, card playing, singing, craft and balloon animal making fun to help kids take their minds off being in hospital.
In addition to providing funding, the Foundation arranges for Greater Building Society staff members to volunteer at some visits. Joining Captain Starlight this time was Rutherford branch customer service officer Mel Butler.
In its 2015/16 funding round, announced in August, the Greater Charitable Foundation provided $110,000 for Starlight to continue to run monthly visits to Maitland as well as visits to eight other hospitals in regional NSW and the Gold Coast for another 12 months. The Foundation provided $560,000 to fund the visits from 2012 to mid 2015.
The Greater Charitable Foundation is funded through the profits of the Greater Building Society.
