Central Coast residents attending this year’s Mingara Christmas Under the Stars on December 20 will also be helping young people doing it tougher than some on the Central Coast to gain job skills thanks to support from The Greater.

Around 20,000 people are expected to attend the Coast’s largest Carols event. Entertaining the crowd will be Gina Jeffreys, 2015 The Voice winner Ellie Drennan, Nathan Foley, Dance @ Nikki Webster, Erica Davis, the Minions, and Santa Claus. The night will be hosted by Byron and Kristie from 101.3 SeaFM.

Proceeds from the event will go to fund a new pop up cafe to be based at The Salvation Army’s Oasis Youth Centre at Wyong. It will be used as training centre for young people to do Barista courses as well as a place the community can visit to socialise and access free meals and support services.

The event is being sponsored by Greater Building Society for the fifth year in a row. Greater staff will be selling candles and glow sticks to raise further funds for the Salvos.

People who snap a selfie of themselves and their family and friends enjoying the night and upload it to Twitter or Instagram using #greaterchristmas, or to The Greater's Facebook page can see themselves on the big screen.

Tickets are still available from the Mingara Welcome Desk or any Central Coast branch of the Greater Building Society. Tickets cost $5 for adults and children 12 years and under are free. People who purchase tickets from The Greater also go in the draw to win a $500 Greater savings account.

Last year’s Carols raised more than $20,000 to purchase a new car for the youth centre’s Drive for Life program.
