Do you know of an Illawarra-based charity or community group that would benefit from a few extra dollars? Then we want to hear from you.
From May this year, Greater Bank is giving community groups across the Illawarra the chance to share in $3000 each month as part of the #GreaterIllawarra community grants program.
Community groups from across the region are encouraged to nominate to be part of the program. Each month, Greater Bank selects three organisations for support that the public then vote on to receive a grant. The winner receives $2000, while runners-up each receive $500.
The launch of #GreaterIllawarra follows the success of the #GreaterNewEngland program that has seen 54 groups from that region share in $90,000.
Greater Bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Scott Morgan, said the program underpins the bank’s commitment to supporting the communities it serves.
“As a customer-owned bank, we are committed to supporting the communities that support us,” Mr Morgan said.
“We’ve taken great delight in seeing the success of the program in the New England area and look forward to rolling it out in the Illawarra.
“The funding has made a real difference to the charities in New England, allowing them to establish new programs, upgrade equipment and facilities, and reach more people with their services. We know it will have a similar impact on groups in the Illawarra.”
If you are involved in, or know of a community organisation or charity that is doing great things in this region, let us know about them.
To nominate a community group, go to greater.com.au/greaterillawarra - upload a photo, and tell us in 100 words or less how the organisation is helping to improve lives of locals.
Members of the community are encouraged to vote each month by going online at or by dropping into one of Greater Bank’s Illawarra branches - Corrimal, Dapto, Figtree, Shellharbour and Wollongong.
