Newcastle Jets land in Northern NSW

Newcastle Jets A-League squad kicked off its 2018 preseason with their #JetsTOUR fuelled by Greater Bank, which this year took in the Mid North Coast.

Departing on 17 July, the first stop was Forsters’ Boronia Park, where the entire squad, including captain Nigel Boogaard, Nikolai Topor-Stanley and Ben Kanterovski, were on hand to pass on valuable football skills to the future football stars before signing autographs and taking photos with their adoring fans.

The squad then headed to Port Macquarie they conducted an open training session at Port Macquarie Regional Stadium, before taking on a Football Mid North Coast Select team in a friendly match at the venue that evening.

The home side put in a spirited performance against their A-League opponents but in the end went down convincingly in front of an enthusiastic crowd of more than 4,000.

The players backed up the following morning to conduct a free clinic for more than 200 aspiring players from the area.

Newcastle Jets Chief Executive Officer, Lawrie McKinna, said that Jets:TOUR fuelled by Greater Bank has become an important feature of the club’s pre-season, both on and off the field.

“This was the fourth year that we were able to take the Club to the Northern NSW region, which was made possible through the support of our community partner, Greater Bank”

- Lawrie McKinna, Newcastle Jets CEO.

“These trips provide a great opportunity for us to meet many of our Members and fans in their backyard, and generally spread the gospel of the game and our Club to the wider community.”

Greater Bank Head of Marketing, Matt Hingston, said the Community Partnership with the Newcastle Jets provides an outstanding platform for the community bank to connect with customers in its key regional markets.

“As a regional bank with more that 260,000 customers across NSW, the regional tour helps us to connect with the people and communities that support us,” Mr Hingston said.

“We are delighted to again partner with the Newcastle Jets to take the tour to regional centres and give the people of Northern NSW the chance to meet their heroes and watch elite football live in their home town.”
