Giving back is what puts the ‘great’ in Greater

According to Volunteering Australia, corporate volunteers contributed a staggering 1 million hours of their own time last year to help those in need. This is why at Greater Bank we are so passionate about volunteering and the reason it remains a key platform for us and the Greater Charitable Foundation.

We are proud of our commitment to the local community through the dedicated network of employees who are passionate and engaged with the areas in which they operate.

In 2019, more than 200 Greater Bank employees volunteered in excess of 1,000 hours to assist community groups and Greater Charitable Foundation’s charity partners with a variety of activities including helping prepare food for families in hospital, providing support to a food rescue organisation and contributing to various fundraising initiatives.

According to Greater Charitable Foundation CEO, Anne Long, many of their not-for-profit partners rely heavily on the dedication of volunteers.

“We are lucky to have a large number of committed employees who are ready and willing to give up their time to help out and give back to those who need it most.

“Their volunteering efforts contribute significantly to all our partners who say that the additional support provided through staff volunteering is just as important as financial assistance,” Anne said.

To recognise these efforts, the Greater Bank Employee Volunteer of the Year Awards were established in 2015 to shine a light on and acknowledge those staff members who go above and beyond to ‘give back’ to their local community.

This year Vim Hawtin, Greater Bank Card Services Reconciliation/Assistant DR Officer, and Amy Dodd, Raymond Terrace Branch Manager, were named joint winners for demonstrating outstanding passion for community giving, having collectively supported more than 13 different charity and community initiatives.

Amy has since been announced runner up in the 2019 NSW Volunteer of the Year State Awards.

Greater Bank Dubbo Branch was also recognised this year for the outstanding dedication all its employees have shown towards supporting their Dubbo community.

In 2020, volunteering will remain a key platform for Greater Bank and the Greater Charitable Foundation as we continue to give time, effort and energy to support others and in doing so help change a lot for those who need it most.
