Boomerang bags to deliver even greater return

Boomerang Bags don’t just come back, they’re the gift that keeps on giving, with all profits going to help local organisations in need, completing a virtuous circle that contributes even more to the greater good.

After taking out the January round of Greater Bank’s #GreaterMidNorthCoast community funding program, Boomerang Bags Forster-Tuncurry is set to use the $2,000 injection to increase their production capacity.

Boomerang Bags Forster-Tuncurry coordinator, Leonie Dowell, said the group’s core aim is to rid the world of plastic bags.

Boomerangbags.org was created by two Queensland women eight years ago to help eliminate plastic bags that are a menace to our environment by replacing them with fabric bags made by volunteers,” Leonie said.

“We sell our bags and donate all proceeds to groups and organisations needing a helping hand in our local area.

“There are now more than 1100 groups around the world doing the same thing we are, with the same goal of cleaning up our environment while donating our profits to benefit our local community.

“The Greater Bank funding will enable us to buy better equipment, which will allow us to make more bags, sell more bags and donate more money locally.”

Greater Bank’s Mid North Coast Regional Sales Manager, Jennifer Smith, said Boomerang Bags is an extremely worthy winner.

“The move away from single-use plastics has generated significant momentum in recent years and it’s socially conscious organisations like Boomerang Bags that are at the forefront of this movement,” Jennifer said.

“It’s great to see our support of Boomerang Bags through the #GreaterMidNorthCoast community funding program will allow them to continue their work in supporting both the environment and those in need across the region.”

Also benefiting from the January round were runners-up Kendall Craft Cooperative (Port Macquarie) and Taree West Cricket Club, both receiving $500.

Grassroots sporting organisations are the focus of our February round, with Souths Netball Club (Coffs Harbour), Port Saints Football Club (Port Macquarie) and Port Macquarie Hastings Hockey Association all in the running for a share of $3,000 in monthly funding.

The public vote is now open online at www.greater.com.au/greatermidnorthcoast until 5:00pm Wednesday 2 March 2022.
