Funding to provide new slide for Canowindra kids

Replacing a much-loved slippery dip is top of the list for Canowindra Pre-School Kindergarten following its success in the July round of Greater Bank’s #GreaterCentralWest community funding program.

Canowindra Pre-School Kindergarten Inc received $2,000 for winning the public vote, ahead of runners-up, Country Hope Central West and Towri Multifunctional Aboriginal Children's Service Centre, who took away $500.

Director, Bronwin Lay, said Canowindra Pre-School Kindergarten has been operating in the area for more than 60 years.

“We are a community, not-for-profit pre-school that is guiding the education of more than 60, three-, four- and five-year old children from our local area,” Bronwin said.

“Our Preschool is beautiful, but takes a lot of maintenance and upkeep, and we are currently in the middle of upgrading our outdoor spaces.

“We have a double slippery dip that’s something of a local icon which has been here for more than 20 years.

“It’s been repaired on numerous occasions, but the time has now come for it to be replaced with an up-to-date model.

“Sadly, they don’t make them like they used to, so we have to improvise somewhat, but the financial burden has been significantly eased thanks to this funding from Greater Bank.

“The opportunity to retire the old girl and get ourselves an updated model is very exciting. We greatly appreciate the grant from the Greater Bank that will allow for this to happen.”

Greater Bank’s Central West Regional Sales Manager, Will Boyd, said preschools build the foundation for kids to learn.

“Having a range of activities and opportunities, like outdoor play equipment, is very important for childhood development,” Will said.

“It sounds like the slippery dip is a real favourite with the kids at Canowindra Pre-School, and we are very happy to be able to help with updating it.”

Voting in the August round of the #GreaterCentralWest community funding program is open until 5.00pm Friday August 19 2022, at greater.com.au/greatercentralwest, with $3,000 to be shared between our nominees The Salvation Army Orana, Bletchington Softball Club and Bathurst Goldminers Basketball.
