RSPCA Gunnedah has received a welcome funding boost after being named the February winner of the newly expanded #GreaterNewEngland community funding program.
The program, launched in Armidale in September 2016, was expanded this month into the wider New England area, giving community groups throughout Gunnedah, Tamworth, Armidale and surrounding areas the chance to share in the monthly $5000 grant provided by Greater Bank.
RSPCA Gunnedah was up against two Tamworth-based organisations for a share in the monthly grant. Following the public vote they have received $3000, with the two runners up each taking away $1000.
RSPCA Gunnedah is a non-profit organisation run by a small group of very dedicated and compassionate volunteers who rescue animals in need throughout the community.
With the organisation operating solely on fundraising and donations, this funding will allow them to continue their work rescuing animals from the local pounds, and also take in unwanted or surrendered animals and also those that are involved in cruelty cases.
Greater Bank’s Gunnedah Branch Manager, Rista Friend, said that it was wonderful to see the Gunnedah community get behind their own in the first round of the expanded program and looks forward to seeing more organisations from the area benefiting from the #GreaterNewEngland program.
“RSPCA Gunnedah is a fantastic local organisation that clearly has great support throughout the community. After meeting those involved and seeing firsthand the work they do, I know this funding will make a real difference to the work they do in our community,” Ms Friend said.
“This is a great win for the Gunnedah community and I hope to be handing over plenty more cheques to worthy recipients in the coming months.”
This month, two more Gunnedah-based groups have been nominated for funding. Goolhi CWA and Gunnedah PRAMS face a public vote, along with Armidale City Wasps Hockey.
