Children's Hospital Foundation Qld

The Children’s Hospital Foundation QLD provides much needed support, education and entertainment for sick kids and their families.

Their Child Life Therapy program is designed to help counteract the fears, misconceptions and anxiety experienced by children in hospital through activities that support the child’s developmental, social and emotional wellbeing.

They are now using their skills and expertise in this field to provide a range of resources for parents to help children deal with their emotions as a result of COVID-19.

For Children Under 7 years

CHFQ referred us to this online book by MindHeart Kids.

Author Manuela Molina created this short book to support and reassure our children under the age of 7, regarding the COVID-19. This book is an invitation for families to discuss the full range of emotions arising from the current situation. It is important to point out that this resource does not seek to be a source of scientific information, but rather a tool based on fantasy. The author’s recommendation is to print this material so children can draw on it. Remember that emotions are processed through repetitive play and stories read multiple times.

KidsXpress aims to address the impact of childhood stress and trauma through workshops, early intervention and group therapy.

Their Trauma Informed Education Services help participants to understand the physiological, social and emotional impacts of childhood trauma.

Kids Helpline is Australia’s only free, private and confidential, 24/7 phone and online counselling service for young people aged 5 to 25 years.

They understand the importance of mental and emotional well-being and have created fun ways for young people to stay connected during COVID-19.

Headspace is another organisation that is supporting teenagers and young adults aged 12 to 25 years of age. They provide tailored and holistic mental health support, as well guides on how to cope with COVID-19 related stress.

This seminar focuses on what we understand from research about how families and friends are affected and why it is important for them to be able to give voice to their experiences.
