This year, Greater Charitable Foundation is celebrating a $1million in funding to one of our first charity partners, Starlight Children’s Foundation Australia.
Since 2011, the Foundation has been supporting Starlight to deliver their unique brand of ‘treatment-free’ respite to hospitalised children, young adults and their families throughout regional New South Wales and the Gold Coast.
Foundation funding has enabled the Starlight Captains to make regular visits to hospitals at Lismore, Armidale, Tamworth, Maitland, Gosford, Taree and the Gold Coast where hospitalised children often have little or no access to specialised distraction programs. This outreach program has filled a much-needed gap in service provision.
Funding has also helped the organisation keep its Starlight Express Room doors open 7 days a week at the John Hunter Children’s Hospital in Newcastle, and assisted Starlight’s Livewire team to stage in-hospital workshops and publish their Zine for hospitalised teenagers around the country.
More than 17,000 children and young people have been impacted by this partnership and hundreds of our Greater Bank staff have volunteered over the years to assist the Captains and share the journey!
Starlight is the 7th most trusted charity in Australia* and now holds the honour of being the first Foundation not-for-profit partner to have received such a significant amount of funding.
