Foundation spreads kindness with YOTS Christmas Appeal

Greater Charitable Foundation is calling on the generosity of the people of Newcastle, Hunter, Central Coast and Port Stephens to help make it a greater Christmas for disadvantaged youth by donating gifts to the Youth Off The Streets’ Christmas Appeal.

The Appeal is being conducted right across Greater Bank’s branch network throughout NSW and South-East Queensland from Monday 11 November to Friday 6 December, including the Newcastle and Hunter region branches.

The Foundation is encouraging people to donate a range of newly purchased gifts for young people aged 12 – 21 years of age, such as sporting equipment, clothing, bags and beauty products, as well as gift vouchers from retailers including Target, Big W, Rebel Sport and JB HiFi.

All presents collected at the branches will be going to children in need in the area and Greater Bank staff will be delivering them to the Youth Off The Streets Christmas party to be held across December.

The Appeal is an extension of Greater Charitable Foundation’s recently announced partnership with Youth Off The Streets in the Hunter Region, that supports a program aimed at addressing the high rate of school suspensions and expulsions within the region, and to assist students’ transition back into the school setting.

Greater Charitable Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Anne Long, said the appeal was a simple way for the whole community to give a little and put a smile on the faces of those who need it most.

“Christmas is a wonderful time of year for so many of us, but the reality is that for many in our community who are struggling, it can be a very tough time,” Ms Long said.

“Every child deserves to wake up on Christmas morning and unwrap presents, which is why we have extended our partnership with Youth Off The Streets to help brighten and make it a greater Christmas for those in need.

“It’s wonderful that our Foundation and Greater Bank have collaborated to make this appeal possible. We want to encourage everyone to purchase even a small gift and take it in to one of our Greater Bank branches across the Hunter.”

Founded by Father Chris Riley, Youth Off The Streets is an independent, non-denominational charity that provides vital support to homeless and disadvantaged young people.
