GCF wins 2020 NSW Volunteer of the Year Award

Greater Charitable Foundation’s commitment to volunteering and supporting life-changing initiatives that help local communities was recently recognised at the 2020 NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards.

Announced as part of an online presentation held by the Centre for Volunteering NSW in December, Greater Charitable Foundation was named winner of the NSW Corporate Team Award.

The 2020 NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards is one of the largest celebrations of volunteering across the country that highlights the outstanding effort of volunteers in NSW whilst acknowledging the importance of volunteers to the community.

Long-time Foundation partner, Cerebral Palsy Alliance (CPA), nominated Greater Charitable Foundation for the award following the invaluable support it has provided its operations in the Hunter, Central Coast and NSW Central West region, particularly during the recent challenges brought about by drought, fires and COVID-19.

According to Cerebral Palsy Alliance’s Senior Coordinator, Volunteers and Corporate Engagement, Angela Dives, the team at Greater Charitable Foundation has continually gone above and beyond to ensure the success of its volunteering program.

“Greater Charitable Foundation’s financial contribution over the past nine years has enabled us to conduct mentoring and Early Response Therapy Programs to families across the state who otherwise would not have accessed these critical services,” Angela said.

“Their support though goes far beyond that, providing a team of volunteers that dedicate time, energy and enthusiasm to the programs that brings so much joy and kindness to our communities.

“There is a strong sense of community support and volunteering throughout all levels of the foundation and Greater Bank, which is underpinned by innovative recruitment, strong support of their people, and the encouragement of continual feedback to help with future volunteering opportunities.

“Like many community and charity organisations, we rely heavily on the support of volunteers and could not successfully conduct our programs without the volunteer support of Greater Charitable Foundation and Greater Bank.”

Greater Charitable Foundation CEO, Anne Long, said they were ecstatic to win the Corporate Team category at the 2020 NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards.

“Volunteering is a key platform of Greater Charitable Foundation and Greater Bank and we are extremely fortunate to have a network of employees who are passionate and engaged with our community,” Anne said.

“This year alone, more than 200 Greater Bank employees volunteered around 1,000 hours of their own time to assist community groups and Greater Charitable Foundation’s charity partners, demonstrating our commitment to giving back to the communities we call home.”

Thanks to funding and volunteering support from Greater Charitable Foundation, Cerebral Palsy Alliance (CPA) continues to roll out its Early Response Therapy Program, which provides solutions for at-risk babies across NSW at a pivotal point in their development helping reduce the severity and impact of disability for each child.

With an estimated one in three Australians volunteering each year, their time and effort contributes to approximately $290 billion worth of voluntary work that supports their local communities.
