Leukaemia Foundation

The Leukaemia Foundation is one of Australia’s largest cancer charities and provides people living with blood cancer many avenues of support such as accommodation, financial assistance, emotional and practical support, health and wellbeing advice, grief support and peer support groups. The long-established Financial Assistance program has already helped a substantial number of blood cancer patients and their families over many years.

Blood cancer is Australia’s second most diagnosed cancer with another 50 men, women and children diagnosed each day joining the more than 110,000 Australians who are living with blood cancer. The costs of blood cancer treatment can put a huge financial burden on patients and their families, not to mention the ongoing treatment and rehabilitation expenses, relocation costs - if living in a rural area - and the possibility of not being able to return to full-time work due to treatment side effects. Research has shown that blood cancer patients experiencing financial hardship have poorer survival outcomes at 5 years in comparison to other blood cancer survivors and this is why targeted assistance is so important. 

The Financial Assistance Program not only provides patients and their families with simple monetary support such as covering household bills, and fuel and grocery vouchers, it also provides advocacy to assist patients with financial hardship after diagnosis. This program is available to eligible blood cancer patients right across Australia.
