April is Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness Month. It’s a chance for all of us to shine a spotlight on this lifelong developmental condition that affects an estimated 1 in 70 Australians.

Greater Charitable Foundation is a long-term supporter of Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) - Australia’s largest autism-specific service provider, with one of the largest autism-specific school programs in the world.

Since 2011, we have provided Aspect with around $1.25million in funding and supported more than 600 families living with autism.

Our latest partnership that was established in 2022, funds the Work Education and Employment Skills Program. The program provides specialised autism-specific support for Hunter and Port Macquarie-based high school students to assist in the transition from school to employment.

The program has seen Greater Bank employees play an active role in supporting the partnership. They have visited Aspect’s Hunter School in Thornton to provide insights into working within the finance industry, while students have also toured branches and our head office operations to find out more about the inner workings of the organisation.

Greater Bank employees will also be taking steps in April…literally…to support Aspect through the ‘Walk for Autism’ campaign.

Walk for Autism challenges all Australians to walk 10,000 steps a day for eight days, or they can “Double their Challenge” and walk 10,000 steps a day for 16 days! All while raising funds in support of children and adults on the autism spectrum.

Walk for Autism is a free virtual walking event with no set location, which means you can walk anywhere, at your own pace, in your own time.
