Funding win brings sensory room to Ngaruki Gulgul Central School

A purpose-built sensory room is on the horizon for Ngaruki Gulgul Central School thanks to Greater Bank’s Greater Central Coast Community Funding Program, with the initiative set to make a meaningful impact on students managing anxiety, trauma and diverse learning needs.

The inclusive space – designed in collaboration with students and the school’s Inclusive Education teacher – will offer a calming environment to help young people regulate their emotions, manage stress, and re-engage with learning.Funding win for Ngaruki Gulgul Central School

Equipped with tools like weighted blankets, noise-cancelling headphones, fidget resources and textural aids, the sensory room will support students who are neurodivergent, or experience PTSD and other complex challenges.

The project reflects the school’s belief that all young people want to learn and are capable of doing so when given the right conditions. At Ngaruki Gulgul Central School, students are treated with respect and supported holistically – addressing barriers to engagement while building confidence, skills and connection.

Jade Morrow, Inclusive Education Teacher at Ngaruki Gulgul Central School, said the new space will be a game-changer for students who need additional support during the school day.

"This room will give our young people somewhere to reset, recharge and feel safe," Jade said.

"It's about creating a space that acknowledges the diversity of our students and gives them tools to better manage their emotions, so they can return to the classroom feeling more settled and focused."

With a practical, personalised and enterprising approach to education, Ngaruki Gulgul blends academic learning with vocational training, wellbeing support, and cultural, social and environmental engagement – ensuring students have the tools to thrive beyond the classroom.

Greater Bank Regional Manager Greg Creagan said the project is a great example of a school-led initiative making a real difference.

"Ngaruki Gulgul Central School is empowering students to help shape a more inclusive learning environment," Greg said.

"This project shows the impact that thoughtful, community-led initiatives can have, and we're proud to support it through the Greater Central Coast Community Funding Program."

Voting is now open for the May round of the program, with another $3,000 up for grabs. The current finalists are Iris Foundation, Beachside Physical Culture Club and Coastal Waters Netball Club.

Votes can be cast daily until 5.00pm Wednesday 28 May at https://www.greater.com.au/greatercentralcoast, where community groups can also register interest in being part of the program.
