Illawarra Women's Health Centre receives funding boost

Illawarra Women's Health Centre's Weavers Program has been named a recent winner of the Greater Bank's Illawarra Community Funding Program.

The centre is a community based, holistic health care service designed by women for women that offers a range of health, wellbeing and community programs and services.

The Weavers Program offers free support for women of all ages across the Illawarra region caring for someone living with dementia, giving them the tools to cope and maintain their own health.

The carer-led peer support program helps carers to deal with emotional challenges, navigate and negotiate services, and stay connected to family and friends.

The funding will support the continuation of the program through recruiting and training new Weavers, facilitating one-on-one and peer support groups, providing ongoing supervision and wellbeing support, and delivering events to support carer and Weaver wellbeing.

Illawarra Women's Health Centre General Manager, Jess Davidson said that the donation will make a significant impact on their organisation.

"The Weavers Program is an important community program because it is co-designed with carers, peer-led and grounded in real experience. The program reduces isolation, strengthens community connections and provides a trusted lifeline for those who often feel overwhelmed or alone," Davidson said.

"Everything we do combines high-quality trauma-informed services, with advocacy, to shape policy and drive systematic change.

"We are incredibly grateful to Greater Bank for their support which will help us to continue our vital work and support women across the Illawarra region through our Weavers program."

Greater Bank Illawarra Regional Manager Greg Creagan said that supporting initiatives like the Weavers Program aligns with Greater Bank's commitment to building stronger communities.

"This program is an essential service within the Illawarra region that provides women with safe, free and accessible support at all times when they need it most," Mr Creagan said.

"We are proud to support an initiative that makes such a meaningful impact in our local community."

The Weavers Program is one of 89 local organisations to receive $297,000 funding through the Greater Bank Illawarra Community Funding Program since 2018.
