Creating Chances scores Greater Illawarra Community Funding

A Nowra-based social enterprise dedicated to empowering young people through sport and experiential learning has been awarded funding through Greater Bank’s Illawarra Community Funding Program.

Creating Chances delivers structured, evidence-based programs that equip students from Years 5 to 12 with essential life skills like leadership, teamwork, and goal-setting – helping them navigate school and prepare for future careers.

The program offers a clear development pathway, enabling students to transition from participants to peer leaders, coaches, and even school-based apprenticeships, creating tangible employment opportunities.

Creating Chances Head Facilitator and School Engagement Coordinator Oliver Naylor said the funding will help expand the program’s reach, supporting more schools and students across the Illawarra.

“Greater Bank’s support allows us to connect with more young people, providing them with hands-on experiences that build confidence, leadership, and career readiness,” Mr Naylor said.

“Our Youth Development Pathway is transformational – students don’t just learn skills, they apply them in real-world settings. From leadership training to our teacher cadet program, we’re creating direct pathways to employment and further education.”

Greater Bank Illawarra Regional Manager Greg Creagan said supporting Creating Chances aligns with Greater Bank’s commitment to building stronger communities.

“This program gives young people the tools to grow, succeed, and contribute to their communities. We’re proud to support an initiative that makes such a meaningful impact,” Mr Creagan said.

Through interactive classroom and field-based sessions, Creating Chances prepares students for key milestones, from transitioning to high school to exploring future careers.

The entrants for the March round of the #GreaterIllawarra Community Funding Program, where there’s another $3,000 up for grabs, are Illawarra Helping Hands Inc, Lost and Found Pets Illawarra and Northern Illawarra Little Athletics Club.

Voting is open until 5.00pm Wednesday 26 March at www.greater.com.au/greaterillawarra which is also where community groups can register their interest in being part of the program.
