Funding boost for Murwillumbah Rural Fire Brigade

Murwillumbah Rural Fire Brigade will have improved storage after they were named a recent winner in the Greater Bank Gold Coast Community Funding Program.

Murwillumbah Rural Fire Brigade is a volunteer service that responds to a range of emergencies, from accidental oil spills to motor collisions, structural fires, bush fires and grass fires.

The brigade also assists the SES, Police and the NSW Ambulance Service with flood rescue and recovery, helping with land searches for missing people and removing patients from home to waiting ambulances.

The funding will go towards the purchase and installation of equipment lockers which will safely store member's uniforms, helmets and boots.

Murwillumbah Rural Fire Brigade Senior Deputy Captain and Community Engagement Officer Don Bentley said the funding will make a significant impact on their organisation and the local community.

"Our brigade is made up of a team of volunteers that are always ready to help and protect our local community in their time of need across a range of emergency situations," Don said.

"We average around four call outs per week which is a lot for a volunteer service. We are a very busy brigade.

"We are extremely grateful to the Greater Bank for their contribution which will give our organisation a much-needed boost."

Greater Bank Regional Manager Scott McCluskey congratulated the brigade and highlighted the important role it continues to play in the local community.

"Murwillumbah Rural Fire Brigade is a vital service within the Murwillumbah and surrounding communities. They provide assistance with big or small incidents for residents across the region," Scott said.

"It's organisations like Murwillumbah Rural Fire Brigade that really step up for the community when they need it most and we are proud to support them."

Since its establishment in 2023, Greater Bank's Gold Coast Community Funding Program has provided over $90,000 to local community groups and organisations.

Voting is now open for the September round of the program, with another $3,000 up for grabs. The September finalists are Matua Community, Gold Coast Bodyboard Club and Worongary State School P&C.
