Support of the Emus continues our love of sport

We love our sport at the Greater Bank and we’re proud of our long-standing support of netball. We also think it’s important to support the communities that support us, which is why we’re entering a new partnership with the Newcastle Emus.

The Emus are the Hunter Region’s oldest Indigenous community owned and led sporting group. They were formed 40 years ago to participate in the NSW Aboriginal Knockout rugby league tournament, and will again line up in the tournament this October Long Weekend in Nowra.

The NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout began in Sydney in 1971. It is widely described as a ‘modern day Corroboree’, featuring teams and supporters from across the state who gather and reunite with family and community, support their hometown and mob, relive past glories and remember those who have passed on.

While rugby league continues to be a focus for the Emus, they also take part in various national and state events including touch football, netball, cricket and soccer.

The partnership with the Emus is a natural fit, with their vision to enrich their community through the power of sport, culture and community spirit.

Aligning with our focus on community, the Emus bring people together from across the Hunter to promote healthy communities, social and economic inclusion, and continue to sponsor and mentor young people into achieving their potential.

In addition to more than 45 registered senior rugby league players and over 80 juniors across four age groups, the group currently has 50 registered netballers in four age groups, and will be taking a team to an upcoming netball tournament in Charlestown on 29 and 30 October.

We wish them every success at the Koori Knockout over the long weekend, and with the winner to host the event next year, there’s an even Greater incentive to come out on top!
