Baseball getting back in the swing with Greater funding

Far North Coast Baseball Association’s ambitions of getting back on the diamond have received a welcome boost after taking out the November round of Greater Bank’s #GreaterNorthernRivers Community Funding Program.

The $2,000 first prize for winning the public vote will go directly towards the rebuild of the Albert Park Baseball Complex, which was severely damaged by flooding earlier this year.

The sporting body was established in 1937 and has a proud history is hosting local, state, national and international baseball teams and tournaments.

Far North Coast Baseball Association Secretary, Justin Cooper, said the game has been heavily impacted by flooding.

“It’s not long since we refurbished our facilities at Albert Park, but they were badly damaged in the floods earlier this year,” Justin said.

“As a result, we are still working hard towards getting our kids back on the field and to do that we need to fix our fields, so we are a step closer to that goal thanks to Greater Bank.

“We’d love to get back to doing that sooner rather than later, so this money from the Greater will help us get back to where we were before the floods devastated the region, including the Albert Park complex.”

Also benefiting from the November round were runners-up Casino Show Society and Momentum Collective, each receiving $500.

Greater Northern Rivers Regional Sales Manager, Scott McCluskey, said the impacts of the flooding are still being felt across the region.

“It’s heartbreaking to see that there are still people and places affected by the flooding, and that there are community assets that still need attention,” Scott said.

“If we can help get more clubs and community groups back on their feet a little sooner, that’s a good outcome all round.”

The nominees for the December round of the #GreaterNorthernRivers Community Funding Program are Pacific Coast Railway Society (Casino), Lennox Beach Line Dancing Group and the Ballina Branch of NSW Country Women's Association, with another $3,000 up for grabs.

The public vote is now open online at www.greater.com.au/greaternorthernrivers until 5.00pm Wednesday December 14, 2022.
