Swimmers have a stroke of luck with Greater funding

A bus trip to an out-of-town meet could once again be on the cards for members of the Kootingal Moonbi Swimming Club, after its success in the #GreaterNewEngland Community Funding Program.

Winning the public vote in the December round has earned Kootingal Moonbi Swimming Club $3,000, with $1,000 each going to Hillgrove District Campdraft Inc and New England Regional Art Museum as our monthly runners up.

Kootingal Moonbi Swimming Club is a family-orientated, not-for-profit club that is run by volunteers. It caters for a wide variety of swimming, ranging from those who are swimming for fun or socially, to those wishing to swim competitively.

Kootingal Moonbi Swimming Club Publicity Officer, Aliceanne McDougall, said they are one of the biggest clubs in the region with 190 registered members aged 6 and up, a number of whom compete at country, state and national championships.

We aim to provide an inclusive environment where everyone of any age can achieve their best and have fun while doing it,” Aliceanne said.

“Before COVID, we used to do bus trips to meets around the state, so this money from the Greater Bank may help us to restart those activities, because it’s great to give our members the chance to compete against other clubs.

”We’ve also recently bought two new computers and upgrade software to run our club night and we are also looking at purchasing a new PA system, so this money from the Greater will definitely be put to good use.”

Greater New England Regional Sales Manager, Will Boyd, said it’s great to see things getting back to normal as we learn to live with COVID.

“So many activities were simply not possible because of the restrictions imposed as part of the response to the pandemic,” Will said.

“If we can help facilitate some travel for Kootingal-Moonbi swimmers, we’re very happy indeed to do that.”

The January round of the program sees another $5,000 on offer, with Guyra “Spuds” Junior Rugby League Club, Animal Welfare League – Tamworth and Somerton Public School Canteen our nominees for the month.

The public online vote is open from 9.00am Monday January 9 2023 until 5.00pm Wednesday February 1, 2023 at greater.com.au/greaternewengland.
