Resurrecting the town’s golf course and sportsground are the priorities for the Curlewis Sporting and Recreation Group, and their success in the February round of the #GreaterNewEngland Community Funding Program will go some way to helping them achieve those goals.
Taking out the public vote means the Curlewis Sporting and Recreation Group receives $3,000, with $1,000 going to runners-up, 360 Scully Park Swimming Club and Armidale Physie Club.
Curlewis Sporting and Recreation Group President, Jade Jones, said the group has big plans.
“We are a newly formed group for locals who are aiming to improve the community and make a name for the town,” Jade said.
“We are currently in the process of resurrecting the golf course and sporting grounds for use by the community and others.
“It’s very difficult to raise money in a small town and so far, all labour and money have been donated by the community.
“This funding from Greater Bank is extremely welcome and is the biggest single contribution we have received to date. It will help us to progress plans to revitalise our golf course and sportsground, which have both been neglected for too long.”

Greater Bank Regional Sales Manager, Will Boyd, said the drive of the Curlewis community is impressive.
“It’s terrific to see the village coming together, united by a common vision,” Will said.
“We love our sport at Greater Bank, so we are delighted to be able to make a contribution to the renewal of the sporting facilities in Curlewis.”
The March round of the Program sees a further $5,000 on offer, with Gunnedah Motorcycle Club, Moore Creek Mountain Goats Football Club (Tamworth) and Tamworth City Swimming Club Inc in the running as our monthly nominees.
