#GreaterCentralCoast reaches funding milestone

Supporting the people that support us is the foundation of Greater Bank’s #GreaterCentralCoast Community Funding program, which reached a significant milestone of giving in February. 

Since its establishment in May 2020, the program has now contributed $100,000 in community funding that has been shared among 100 community groups across the Central Coast; a region that has been an important part of Greater Bank’s footprint since 1968. 

To say that we are proud of this support would be an understatement. 

The Community Funding Program, which is now rolled out across seven regional areas across NSW and South-East Queensland, is the cornerstone of Greater Bank’s support of the communities in which we operate and is aimed at supporting those organisations that work every day to make their community even greater. 

Greater Bank Regional Manager, Josh Swetnam, said the #GreaterCentralCoast program has supported the community during what has been a critical period for the region. 

“While we didn’t know it at the time, #GreaterCentralCoast was launched when we were on the brink of a global pandemic. Within weeks we were locked down, meaning that the vast majority of community-based organisations lost their ability to fundraise,” Josh said. 

“So many of the organisations we supported through the first 18 months used the funding to simply keep their doors open so they could continue to support their communities during a really difficult time. 

“Over almost three years, the program has not only opened our eyes to, but also enabled us to connect with and support so many amazing community groups across the Central Coast that are run by passionate and dedicated people who work hard to support their communities. 

“It’s also shone a light on how many amazing groups there are in our communities that provide very specific programs and activities that largely goes unnoticed outside those people they directly support, which makes it difficult for them to get any sort of financial assistance.  

“Each and every one of the winners and runners up have expressed great appreciation for this support.” 

The #GreaterCentralCoast program’s latest winner is Doggie Dates NSW who will use their $2,000 first prize to purchase a new gazebo to take to events as part of their promotional activities. 

Doggie Dates NSW Founder and Director, Ted Melrose, said the not-for-profit’s ultimate aim is to make a difference in the community. 

“Doggie Dates NSW members regularly meet to walk their dogs and we accept all dogs regardless of their behaviour and breed,” Ted said. 

Our goal is to connect the Central Coast community through our Central Coast Doggie Dates dog walking group. Our attendees include retirees, young people, families and people with physical and/or mental health challenges. 

The group is safe and helps to foster inclusiveness and friendships, as well as providing education in responsible dog ownership. 

“This money from Greater Bank will go a long way towards covering the cost of a new gazebo that will help us present a more professional image to the public.”
