Greater community support tops $400,000 across the New England

Greater Bank has now given away more than $400,000 to 243 community groups in the New England region since launching its #GreaterNewEngland Community Funding Program in 2016.

Joining the growing lists of program recipients is May winner, Gunnedah Athletics Centre, who plan to use their $3,000 prizes to fund upgrades their facilities and equipment.

Also benefiting from the May round are runners up, Little Wings (Armidale) and Nemingha Public School P&C, each receiving $1,000.

Gunnedah Athletics Centre is a self-funding organisation that not only supports 180 registered athletes but provides its facilities for use to the wider community.

Gunnedah Athletics Centre President, Kate Ceeney, said the recent windfall from Greater Bank will enable them to undertake some much-needed upgrades of their facilities.

“We are currently upgrading our long jump runway and shot put circle to bring them up to standard.

“We’ve laid the concrete for both but are yet to lay the track on the long jump runway or finish off the surrounds of the throwing circle, so this money will enable us to progress those projects just in time for the start of the school athletics season.

“It’s not just local schools but the zone and regional carnivals use our facilities as well, so this contribution from Greater Bank is much appreciated not just by us, but by the athletics community in the New England North-West region.”

Greater New England Regional Sales Manager, Will Boyd, said it’s terrific to see investment in infrastructure that benefit the entire community.

“This is a fantastic outcome for the New England region, with quality facilities available for use by a range of groups,” Will said.

“We’re delighted to know that athletes from across the New England and North-West regions will be able to access the upgraded facilities, giving more people the chance to train and compete at a higher level.”

With a commitment to supporting the communities that support us, Greater Bank’s community funding program was established in September 2016 as a way of generating positive action for community groups across the region.

Originally launched as #GreaterArmidale, the program was expanded in February 2018 to take in the entire New England region, which today which provides $5,000 each month to three local organisations as voted by the community.

The program continues in June with a further $5,000 on offer. Can Assist Gunnedah, Helping Children and Families Association and Boggabri Women’s Shed are all in the running as monthly nominees.

The public can vote online at greater.com.au/greaternewengland from 9.00am Monday June 5 until 5.00pm Wednesday 28 June 2023.
