Alicia from Newcastle took out our prize, with her response to our question: In 30 words or less what home loan advice would you give to first home buyers?
Alicia's response was: Take along someone without a vested interest to view the property with you. They are likely to pick up on important features/issues that you may overlook in your excitement.
A huge congratulations to our runners up as well, with some truly insightful responses to our survey question:
- Angela: Consider capital growth. Research all loan factors, rates, fees, variable, fixed and early payout penalties. Protect you/family with insurance. Factor in interest rate increases and support mutual banks.
- Amanda: You are allowed to make more than one appointment. Research, ask as many questions as you like, digest the answers, follow up with your Lender another time.
-Kirby: Shop around for loans and consider what features you need, not just who will lend the most at what rate. Pick the one who makes you feel comfortable and secure.
- Chris: Get in fast and early. No smashed avocado or lattes. Save save save!
- Melissa: Have a little bit extra in your bank pocket because something extra will always pop up!
- Yvonne: Don't underestimate how much you will need to borrow. Pay as much back, as quickly as you can. Weekly repayments are more effective.
- Sarah: Adulting is overwhelming, but don't stress! Ask older adults lots of questions, explore your options and be patient- the right home will come along!
- Jodi: Don't be scared to have a mortgage, it's the best way I know how you can make a little piece of Australia your own.
- Chris: As 20 year olds, our advice is to plot your moves carefully and don't hesitate, keep pushing and you will get the result you want.
