Entries are now open for the 2019 Fernleigh 15 which is set to attract more than 1,200 runners of all ages and abilities when the starter’s gun goes off on Sunday 20 October.
Part of the Greater Bank Fun Run Series, the iconic running event is now in its eighth year and will again take place along a 15km section of the Fernleigh Track from Adamstown to Belmont.
Fernleigh 15 Organiser and Rio 2016 Olympian, Scott Westcott, said the event is a major fixture on the regions running calendar and will attract a quality elite field, however, it really is an event for everyone.
“This year we’re excited to have talented local female runner, Rose Davies and junior athletes Ty and Emerson Leadbeater as part of this year’s starting line up which is set to be bigger and better than ever before,” Scott said
The Fernleigh 15 has always been about getting the community active and this year we hope to attract more people to the start line. Regardless of your age, fitness level or ability, this is a chance for everyone to get up early on a Sunday morning, be active and enjoy the experience. | Scott Westcott, Athletics NSW.
“We are also looking to add more colour to this year’s event by encouraging participants to dress up in Halloween theme. The runner or team of runners judged wearing the most creative costume will receive a Greater Bank account pre-loaded with $1,000.
“For those that might find the full 15km a little daunting, the Fernleigh Relay – a five-leg relay where each runner completes 3km of the course – is a great way to experience this fun, community event while getting active.”
The race gets underway at 8am in Adamstown with runners crossing the finish line on the track at Belmont where they can enjoy a range of fun activities and entertainment for the whole family including food trucks, the HIT 1069 party zone and the Greater Bank Active Recovery Zone where people can chill, grab a massage and refuel after the race.
The Fernleigh 15 is one of 9 Greater Bank Fun Run Series events being held across NSW in 2019 and is a great way for the community to enjoy the Fernleigh Track free of traffic and bicycles.
According to Greater Bank’s Head of Marketing and Customer Experience, Matt Hingston, the Fernleigh 15 is a great way for Greater Bank to support a positive community event that promotes the importance of an active and healthy life.
“We’re proud to once again be involved in the Fernleigh 15 which is a fun community event that encourages everyone – from elite athletes and running clubs to weekend joggers and casual walkers - to enjoy the great outdoors while endorsing the importance of getting active,” Mr Hingston said.
Entries to this year’s event are now open and close at 8am on the day of the event.
The entry fee is $50 for an individual and $85 for a team of 5 runners. Plus, if you’re a Greater Bank customer you can receive 20% off your race entry by using the code GREATERCUSTOMER when registering.
All runners who complete the event will receive a unique finishers medal while relay runners who finish their leg will receive a RunNSW medal. Prizes will also be presented to the top three finishers in each of the major categories including a Greater Bank Life Saver account pre-loaded with $50.
