How do you conduct a fun run through times of social distancing restrictions? You do it virtually, of course!
That was RunNSW’s strategy after being forced to postpone the majority of its community running events due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The Greater Bank Virtual Fun Run held from 22 to 28 June gave participants of all ages, abilities and fitness levels the opportunity to get active and test themselves against others in the community and across the state by covering 5km in their neighbourhood.
The fun run brought together more than 500 people ‘virtually’ from across NSW with one lucky runner winning a GARMIN Vivoactive 4S!
Athletics NSW CEO, Kirin Lindop, said that like all other sporting organisations they had to pivot their business and events to ensure the running community remained connected during times of social isolation.
“Our traditional running events that can attract many thousands of people became impossible to conduct once the COVID-19 restrictions were enforced. We had to think outside the square to ensure we keep our runners connected and also provide opportunities and encouragement for the wider community to be more active.”
“We were delighted to partner with Greater Bank to present the Virtual Fun Run which ticks both of these boxes.”
