Grassroots football club kicking goals after #GreaterIllawarra funding win

Illawarra’s largest grassroots football club has received a huge financial boost after winning the latest #GreaterIllawarra’s community funding round.

More than 30,000 votes were cast between the eventual winners Figtree Football Club and runners-up, Berkeley Public School and ADHD Support Group Illawarra, making it one of the largest voting periods on record.

As winners, Figtree Football Club were awarded a $2000 grant, with the runners-up each received $500.

Figtree Football Club’s President, Mike Dodd, said the club will be putting the funds to use straight away.

“We are very much a part of our community and run off the goodwill and assistance of countless volunteers and families. It means a great deal that the community came together to support us by voting for us to receive this reward.”

“I’d really like to thank Greater Bank for such a wonderful and thoughtful funding program that will now allow us to invest in better equipment and facilities for our club,

Greater Bank’s Illawarra Regional Sales Manager, Greg Creagan, said he was overwhelmed by the response to this month’s funding round.

“It’s so pleasing to see just how many people support the #GreaterIllawarra community funding program,” Greg said.

“To see more than 30,000 votes cast this month is just incredible. It shows how much people care about their community and the special organisations that help support them.

“It’s coming up to three years since Greater Bank began helping local community organisations make the Illawarra greater through this program and in that time we’ve given away more than $138,000 to 108 groups.”

The June round of the #GreaterIllawarra program is now open with Port Kembla JRLFC, Ability Artist and Arcadians Theatre Group all competing for a share in the $3000 funding.

The public can cast their vote online at greater.com.au/greaterillawarra or by visiting a Greater Bank branch. Voting closes at 5pm on Wednesday 30 June 2021.
