Greater helps give the gift of music

Learning a musical instrument delivers many benefits for children, helping them develop teamwork and cooperation skills, as well as improving their cognitive abilities.

Funding from the December round of Greater Bank’s #GreaterCentralCoast community funding program will enable Tuggerah Lakes Junior Training Band to continue to deliver this to young aspiring musicians on the Central Coast.

Tuggerah Lakes Junior Training Band has received $2000 for winning the public vote, while runners up Her Cave Incorporated and River Cares Inc both receive $500.

Tuggerah Lakes Junior Training Band convenor, Margaret Holmes, said music plays a very important role in children’s development.

“There’s lots of evidence that learning a musical instrument brings a range of benefits for children, from reducing stress to improving their performance in the classroom,” Margaret said.

“Tuggerah Lakes Junior Training Band has been going since 2019, with a number of children reaping the rewards that learning and playing music brings.

“Our organisation is run by volunteers, with members of the Tuggerah Lakes Show Band generously donating their time to assist young children to learn an instrument at The Entrance.

“So we are delighted to have won this funding from Greater Bank, as it will help us cover the costs of the program facilitated by the Conservatorium of Music.”

Greater Bank’s Central Coast Regional Sales Manager, Josh Swetnam, said it’s great for kids to have the opportunity to learn an instrument.

“Music makes such an important contribution to childhood development, so the more children get to play music the better,”Josh said.

“Greater Bank is proud to help the Tuggerah Lakes Junior Training Band in their efforts to share the joy of music and its many benefits.”

Voting in the January round of the #GreaterCentralCoast community funding program is now open, with Wildlife Arc, Kariong Wanderers Rugby Club and Central Coast Disaster Relief competing for a share of $3,000 in monthly funding.

The public can vote online at greater.com.au/greatercentralcoast until 5:00pm, Wednesday, 2 February 2022.
